I really appreciate the idea of a forum meant for people who do have additional considerations. I am young, only took a semester off high school and then went straight into undergrad and now same thing just one semester off and into law school. I got a 151 LSAT and 3.5 GPA. When I was eighteen my family moved to Argentina and I decided to move in with my boyfriend, who is now my husband, he has a son which we have majority custody of. My family is now in Cali, and we need to leave to Colorado. Its just time to move and family support would be great since my husband has no family here either. So in age i'm a traditional student, but I'm also a wife and a mom and a URM. My husband works in restaurants and we're still in immigrant processing for him so he can't really find different work. We have to go to court to be able to take my son, so we'll need to enroll him in a good school and know where he's going to live so that the judge can feel good about allowing us to take him, especially since bio mom has basically been absent. I got a rejection from UCI, I got accepted into Chapman, Southwestern, University of Denver, Western State, and Thomas Jefferson. I don't want to stay in Denver, and out of those I was thinking Chapman. Its close to family, which the courts also care about, and its helpful.
Also I want to stay around the OC area and wont be working the first year
So these are my considerations:
Affordability of living? We were thinking between buying and renting but until he gets a social security number the only ones I find has too high of interest. but everything is expensive to rent for the two bedrooms we need.
More important that affordability: School systems for kids, needs to be a good school for my son, just because I want him to strive, and because the court needs to see that.
Low crime rates without 2000-3000 in rent/month
My husband can get a job near Orange (chapman) due to a family friend who owns a restaurant.
Well I'm not looking for "don't go" because I really want to help the immigrant community legally, therefore I'm also not looking for super big law. I am super thankful for any advice.
